Description of Deer Meadows Retirement Community
Deer Meadows Retirement Community is situated on seven acres of land and is conveniently located in Northeast Philadelphia. Offering independent living, personal care, secured memory care and skilled nursing, this community offers a continuum of care and is uniquely positioned to meet the changing needs of our residents. Originally founded in 1869 as The Baptist Home of Philadelphia, for nearly 150 years, Deer Meadows has been a provider of high-quality residential services that allow seniors to remain active and independent, while confident of the best assistance, support, and medical care. Residents are able to enter our community at any care level and do not have to pay a "buy-in" that many continuing care requires.
Our residents enjoy maintenance-free living in a safe, caring environment. Residents can choose from our beautifully appointed studio, one, or two-bedroom apartments. All our accommodations offer meals, housekeeping, and a recreational and social calendar for our residents' convenience. Our one and two-bedroom apartments have a full kitchen and washer/dryer. Studio units have kitchenettes with washer/dryer units on each floor. There is no need to move apartments if you step up from independent living to personal care, as we simply bring the care to you.
Deer Meadows Retirement Community is dedicated to attracting and retaining the best employees in each field, from our trained dining room staff to our highly skilled technicians in maintenance. All staff members from administrative to support and maintenance are carefully screened and undergo age-sensitive training. As a result, everyone at Deer Meadows works diligently to provide the high level of service that residents and their families have come to expect. My grandmother is doing very well in Deer Meadows. It's a nice and clean place, the food is good, and her apartment is very nice. The place is also safe and handicapped-accessible, which is good considering that most senior places in this area are not. She still has her freedom, but they always keep an eye out for her. They have bingo, different games, exercise classes in the mornings, trips to the local mall, and church on Sundays. The staff is nice and seems to know her as a person, not just some random woman walking the halls. One of the administrators walked by and called her by her name which is nice. The place doesn't feel like a facility when you walk in, and after being in different facilities, I feel that Deer Meadows looks homier. It's decorated very nice, and the hallway where she lives looks more like a hotel than an assisted living apartment. I feel like we got the best bang for our buck there compared to other places.

Deer Meadows was a nice place, but it was like an old Baptist home and looked institutionalized. It's near Nazareth Hospital. The rooms were OK, but they were smaller than what my brother-in-law has now.
