I really liked Rio Terra. It's got independent, assisted, nursing home, and memory care, and my mother-in-law and father-in-law stayed there for independent care. It did not look like a care home, but it looked like you were in a hotel. The dining room was always done up superbly with linens. It's set up like fine dining. We didn't have any problems with the staff. They had a lot of activities. There's always an activity calendar out. They do special days for different things. Friday night was wine night. They had a bar and they get together before dinner. They go on a bus to do day trips or to different places in New Braunfels and it didn't cost them anything. They have a lot of amenities. It's a little high-priced, but it's excellent. My in-laws had a full house with a stove and everything, so they didn't go down to eat.

We toured Rio Terra. They showed us the 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments. They looked clean and adequate, but we picked the other community because they have individual patios. Rio Terra provides transportation for appointments and offers both assisted living and memory care services. They also provide two meals and you have the option of when you want to take your meal. They had a movie theater, which was very nice, they had exercise classes, and they take the residents to the parks or farmer's markets (if they want to go there). They had a pretty wide variety of activities.

Rio Terra Retirement was beautiful and the apartments were large. The staff who toured me was good and very helpful. The dining area was nice, and everything was set up for the evening meal when I was there. They didn't have that many activities. The place, lobby, and sitting area were nice. They had cookies and a bowl of fruit out for the residents.

My visit to Rio Terra two months ago was lovely, but I don't think they have a pool, which is something that I would want. It's also more expensive than I can afford.

When I visited Rio Terra Retirement the rooms was very dark, and they didn't have any facilities available at the time. They said there's a 6-month wait for independent living. The room they showed me was in assisted living, it was just a studio which was too dark, and it would not have worked for my mom. The community was also too big, she would have gotten lost. They had a TV room and a salon. In terms of the staff, the girl that talked to us there was fine. The room that they showed me was drab and was not big enough.
