Commonwealth Assisted Living was founded in 2002 by CEO, Richard J. Brewer who has been in the senior housing industry for 20 years. Starting with just three communities the company has grown to 20 communities and is now Virginia's premier provider of assisted living and memory care. I chose Commonwealth because it had a nice open look to it. Also, they were the only ones who chose to put my dad in regular living instead of memory care. The first day my dad was there, almost everybody in the building came to his room and introduced themselves. It was so nice. My dad had an assistant for four hours a day to show him where he should go to eat, where he could get a snack, and lots of other things to help acclimate him. He did this for four or five days; it was really a blessing. My dad seems to be doing very well. He seems to be happy. They have a lot of small trips that are a couple of hours long, and they go places like Wal-Mart. One of the things that is also very nice there is that my dad has a small account, so if he goes somewhere or gets his hair cut, they take the money out of that. I'm very pleased with it. From what I've seen, the food is excellent and all farm-fresh. Everything comes from a farm I think that's fabulous.

My aunt is living in Commonwealth Senior Living at Chesterfield. It is an excellent facility with an excellent staff and administration. They always keep them active with something to do and the food is good, so I don't have any complaints. They take them shopping and to restaurants. They have a caring administration. The administrator is outstanding and cares, so that means a lot when you're putting a loved one in the care of somebody else.
