My friend has been a resident at Ana and David Assisted Living for over two years. As with all of us, my friend wanted to be in her own home and care for herself. But she realized that, after a number of falls and several trips to the hospital, she was unable to care for herself any longer. The staff has been caring and loving since the first day. They understand the physical and mental needs of the residents, and treat the residents as if they are their own family members. My friend comments frequently how much she likes the food, which are home cooked meals each day. With the impact of COVID-19, the staff restricted visits from family and friends. This was very difficult for my friend, who is a very social person. She didn\'t understand the full impact of the coronavirus and why no one came to visit with her. As time passed, I was able to visit and saw that the care and concern of the staff was exemplary. Their major concern was for the health and welfare of the residents. I am grateful that my friend\'s family found Ana and David Assisted Living to give her that care and love she needs. This is most important when we aren\'t able to care for our loved one in the latter stage of their life. \'

My mother-in-law is at The Forum at Desert Harbor. The care has been good so far. It's very nice, very clean, and well maintained. They offer three meals a day and laundry services, and she has enjoyed a couple of the music socials.

Vista del Rio was great and seemed like a nice place. We really enjoyed it. The staff was wonderful, nice, and very helpful. The 1-bedroom was a little smaller than what we had hoped for, but the patio was very nice and we liked that. It had a living room and an area with a sink, a place to put your microwave, and a small refrigerator. The kitchen wasn't much at all, which was kind of a disappointment. The people also seemed very nice. They seemed very good with activities, like a lot of places they take you, and they seemed very good about taking the residents to the doctor, the grocery store, or the mall. It seems they had it all covered and they did very well. They have an area where they can read, there's an exercise facility, and a laundry facility.

My aunt fell in love with the apartment at The Fountains at Lake Pleasant. It was much larger than the other place we visited, and she could basically use all of her own furniture. She really liked it. The drawback there was it was a little ways to go to get to the cafeteria, but they come and get you in a golf cart, and if you don't feel like going to the dining room, they can bring you your food. The staff was very good.

We liked The Fountains at Lake Pleasant, but it was a little too far out. The decor was modern, but you won't be able to park right next to your apartment, and my brother didn't want to walk that far. The last person in the parking lot might have to walk a block. The amenities were very nice, but there was no laundry facility inside the apartment, and you had to go to the community center for it. The workout room was nice. The staff was very nice, too. The apartments were either one or two bedrooms. It was pretty far north from our family here in The Valley, and you'd have to really be able to drive to get around to restaurants and shopping.

The Fountains at Lake Pleasant was very nice, but the rooms were too small. They wouldn't take our furniture, and they were too expensive. The staff was very nice, and it had a very pleasant atmosphere.

The Forum at Desert Harbor was a really nice facility and the people were nice, but it was a little bit chaotic in the front area. The apartments were alsp pretty small. I stayed for lunch, and it was a little bit strange because you have to have a reservation even if you live there. It sounds a little bit too formal for my taste. Julie, the staff member who showed me around was very friendly and informative. Every bit of the place was beautiful and well-kept. The dining room was comfortable and the meal itself was very good. It was just strange because I couldn't finish my meal so I wanted it to go, but they were only allowed to give me one Styrofoam box to put everything in. They have quite a few activities. They gave me a packet and there was a whole page of activities and places to go for the month. It was interesting and there was a good variety of choices.

Vista del Rio was very favorable all the way around. It was nice, clean, and friendly place. The staff was wonderful. I saw three rooms and they were good and although the kitchens were smaller than I thought they were going to be, but the room itself is surprisingly comfortable. They have quite a few activities. They had a pool, laundry, and meals. We had a meal there and it was really good. The place was pretty, colorful and clean.

I love Vista del Rio. It felt like home and everybody was friendly. People hang out in the living room; that's how peaceful and relaxing it is. There was one person doing manicure on one of the residents, and there were a couple of people playing, too. The person who accommodated us was amazing. She was a very nice lady.
Genworth’s 2018 Cost of Care study shows Peoria just slightly above the Arizona average of $3,800 but below the national average of $4,000 for monthly assisted living costs. Compared to cities like Flagstaff ($5,098) and Tucson ($4,044), Peoria’s costs are low. Other areas, like Prescott ($3,775) and Sierra Vista ($3,800), are in the same cost range, while Lake Havasu ($3,500) is moderately less expensive.
Note: Information specifically for Peoria wasn’t available, so data for the Phoenix area was used.
Cost of Assisted Living Comparison Sheet
The care option chosen can make a significant difference in monthly expenses. The cost for assisted living is nearly $1700 more expensive than adult day health yet notably less costly than every other type of care in the area. The monthly average for a semiprivate room in nursing homes is more than 50% higher than assisted living. For services provided in-residence, remember to factor in daily living and home maintenance costs, such as meals, property taxes and utilities. More comprehensive care, such as an assisted living facility or nursing home, typically covers these expenses for residents. Cost of Homemaker/Home Health Aide Comparison Chart

For low-income Americans with limited assets, Medicaid is a national program designed to provide health care coverage. Arizona’s Medicaid program, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), is funded federally and through the state and covers a range of services including doctor’s visits, hospital care, prescriptions and immunizations.
Arizona Long-Term Care Services (ALTCS) is the division of Medicaid that administers aid to seniors and the disabled. Rather than using waivers subject to enrollment caps that result in waiting lists for new applicants, ALTCS provides benefits and services as entitlements.
To qualify, Arizona residents must be at least age 65, meet financial and resource guidelines and need a nursing home level of care, as determined by a social worker assessment.
Individuals must have a monthly income below $2,313 and assets valued below $2,000. Married couples are subject to the same individual limits. If just one spouse applies, up to $3,160.50 in monthly income can be transferred to the non-applicant, who is also allowed up to $126,420 in assets.
Although ALTCS does not pay for room and board in an assisted living facility, various supportive services may be covered, including:
Assisted Living Bridge Loans
Peoria seniors who need help with the cost of moving to an assisted living facility may be good candidates for an assisted living bridge loan from Elderlife Financial Services. These short-term loans must be repaid within 12 months and can give seniors access to needed funds while waiting for benefit approval, the sale of a home or other expected disbursements. Credit approval is required, but Elderlife Financial allows up to six cosigners on the application and usually respond within 24 hours. Once approved, the borrower can access funds as a lump-sum payment or line of credit. For more information, contact Elderlife Financial at (888) 228-4500 to speak with a loan specialist.
Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefits
U.S. veterans may have an additional resource available to help with the cost of assisted living. Those who are eligible for their military pension and not receiving disability pension payments may qualify for the VA Aid and Attendance program. Through this program, the VA provides additional monthly payments to help cover the cost of necessary care and services. To be eligible, veterans must meet one of the following criteria:
