I lived at Lifestream for 3 years. The apartments are like patio homes with a carport just outside the front door. The residents are nice, very friendly and helpful. The staff was helpful and caring. I moved in during the pandemic. I moved there because my doctors recommended getting help with meals and housekeeping. I am a vegetarian. When i visited there were vegetarian options for meals. They had daily entrees for lunch and dinner and available everyday options. The available everyday menu shrunk during the pandemic and very limited vegetarian options. The meals are included in the rent. Because they did not offer many meals that I could eat i ended up buying my own food and not eating in the dining área. I was paying for food that I could not eat. I asked if could not pay for the meals and was told no they didn’t have meal plans the meals were optional and the rent would be the same. I felt like i was being ripped off. I chose to move out. The food was ok when i visited. The dining area was closed due to the pandemic. When it reopened, the quality was not good. The food is cooked at another LifeStream property and delivered daily to the North Phoenix property. 3 stars are for the caring staff and warm, friendly community. If you are looking for a safe, friendly community then this might work for you. I moved out 1 year ago.

Beatitudes Campus was nice. I liked it. They sold out of the efficiency rooms, so you have to go on a waiting list for one of those. The lady who took us around was very nice, and the facilities were fair. They're older buildings, but I saw a one-bedroom. It's not that beautiful, but it was OK and pretty nice. I've been there a couple of times, because I knew somebody who lived there. It's pretty clean, but it's not modern looking. The structure seems OK, as well. Each building had its own purpose. There are a couple of buildings for independent, there is one building for memory loss, and there is another one for assisted. That's the way it was laid out.

My Mom has been at this facility for three years. My brothers and myself have been very pleased with our Moms care. Alma has been an awesome caregiver. She is very compassionate and caring with all the patients. The home is always kept neat and clean. In addition, the meals are planned and homemade.

Beatitudes Campus is absolutely amazing and beautiful. It's extremely friendly, very well manicured and maintained, and absolutely stunning. It's a whole campus, it didn't feel old, dried up, or they got a bunch of old people there. There was life to it, and the staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and amazing, too. The rooms were all done on a Youtube video due to Covid restrictions, but they are a good size, they have high ceilings, and they're nice. There's a billiard, there are all kinds of social activities, there are 4 different dining restaurant styles along with a bistro. You got choices and you don't have to eat just what's given to you.

Beatitudes Campus was a lovely facility, and that would be my preference if I could afford it. The staff was very informed and very helpful. They had studios, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom, and they were very clean. I like the dining room. Their gathering wasn't too close, but it wasn't too far away, you feel like you were alone. It was a very friendly environment. The highlight of my trip was that they had a really nice gift shop. Right now, we hardly can do any shopping, so it was nice to go to a place that was very well supplied.

Sagewood Phoenix is very large; it's a hundred acres. They're gonna go to having about a thousand people, so there isn't much personal attention. It costs about $90,000 a year, so it's a little bit on the pricey side. I moved in a while ago. The first two years were pretty nice, but the last few years they've been less accommodating. I would say that people would be better off taking a look at a smaller facility rather than having a lot of people and the place being run like a business. But it is clean and we get our meals dropped off in our homes. There is no open dining because of the COVID-19. We're told to stay in our apartments, but they'll bring us our food and we can spend our day watching TV. Before COVID-19 we could use the indoor and outdoor pool, we had exercises that were sponsored by the staff, card games, a movie theater, and those kind of things. I've expected more of them for the cost of care. There are other places that are kind of medium, but they're certainly less costly than this. You pay an entrance fee when you come in, and that averages about $900,000.

Madison Meadows is good. My mom's got a nice place and she's relatively happy there even though at first she's confused. I believe the accommodations are sufficient, the meals are good as well as the activities. She likes their yoga, she loves the library they have and she does the walking club, she's also interested in their gardening. She has her dog there, the community is super pet-friendly and it's a super plus for her.

I'm living at Brookdale Central Paradise Valley and I like it. The food and staff are really good. They have a lot of activities like Wii bowling, poker, happy hour every Friday, and a lot of entertainment just about every day. They have two vehicles to take us to doctors' appointments and shopping. The building is pretty good. The only complaint I have is that the water is awfully slow in my apartment.
The Genworth 2018 Cost of Care study indicates that the average monthly cost of assisted living in Phoenix ($3,850) is slightly below the national average ($4,000) and just above the state average ($3,800). When compared to Flagstaff, where the average cost of assisted living is $5,098, Phoenix is relatively affordable.

The cost of senior care depends a great deal on the level of care that’s required, and this is especially true in Phoenix, where the average cost of nursing home care is nearly $3,000 more than assisted living. Homemaker services and home health aides cost considerably more than assisted living in Phoenix as well. When evaluating home-service costs, it’s important to account for housing costs, such as rent, utilities and upkeep, as these expenses would be in addition to the care rates. Assisted living costs include services, room and board.

The Arizona Long-Term Care program operates under the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, which is the state’s Medicaid program. The ALTCS provides access to care for low-income seniors and covers or drastically reduces the cost of assisted living and other senior care options in Phoenix and throughout Arizona. Coverage includes services such as dental care (up to $1,000 annually), medical care, prescription medication, support services and case management services.
Seniors must be 65 years of age or older, have a valid social security number, be a resident of Arizona and meet the financial requirements of the program to be eligible. They must also submit to a functional and medical assessment to determine the level of care they require, and they must reside in an approved facility.
Financial requirements include undergoing an assessment to determine whether the senior isn’t capable of paying for their own care. Individual applicants must not earn more than $2,313 per month and may not possess assets totaling more than $2,000 in value. Assets include the cash value of all checking and savings accounts, stocks, bonds, life insurance policies and property.
Seniors must reapply for the ALTCS program annually, and applications are available at their local ALTCS office.
Home and Community-Based Services
HCBS is a program provided by the Arizona Department of Economic Security in partnership with the Area Agency on Aging. It’s for seniors who would otherwise require admission to a nursing home if additional care wasn’t provided and covers a range of services including nurse visits, respite care and transportation.
Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis by an Area Agency on Aging caseworker. Phoenix seniors can apply for this program in person at the Maricopa County Area Agency on Aging office or by phoning (602) 264-4357.
Elderlife Bridge Loan
When seniors are ineligible for Medicaid assistance yet unable to pay for the cost of assisted living without financial help, elder bridge loans from companies such as Elderlife Financial Services may be an option. Bridge loans go directly to the assisted living or other long-term care facility where the senior resides and are paid back in installments. Seniors and any cosigners are responsible for making the payments in full. Elderlife bridge loans offer flexible payment options and low interest rates.
Eligibility depends on credit and income; however, seniors may apply and share payments with up to six applicants to increase their chances of approval. Seniors applying for a bridge loan must reside in an approved facility or be scheduled to move into one.
