My mom went into Poets Walk before the pandemic. We were promised a lot and the residence did not get what they paid for. The room was ok but there were no activities to speak of and they stopped taking residence out in the community. They started out having a lot of activities but that changed to very few activities after COVID. My mom was left in her room to sit and watch TV or in a room with no stimulation. The staff were nice but not educated and did not know how to care for her. The Staff lacked the experience, often did not put mom\'s dentures in her mouth, sometimes it looked like they were not bathing her because of her greasy hair, did not often dress her appropriately for the weather, and they allowed moms drinks to run down her top as she was having a harder time eating. I not only had problems with the facility I had a hard time getting my refund from the company. We were told it takes 45 days to get our refund. It took 51 work days to get my mom\'s refund (over two months). After 45 days, I called daily and left messages with corporate but nobody called me back. I finally talked to accounts payable after calling her two times the week before leaving messages and no phone call was. I got the money back because I was persistent and the last time I called I reached her and then is when she sent the money the next day. Poet\'s Walk is not worth the money. Your parent is not important and the money is the only thing that is important to them. Management and corporate both do not deal with the problems instead they pretend there is nothing wrong. There is never enough staff for the number of residents and staff is changing all of the time.

My mother lived here for a little over 2 years before she passed away in January 2021. She just gave up due to lack of care and interaction. Dementia patients need interaction, activities and care. Even during Covid19 the CDC stated dementia patients needed interaction. In the beginning Poet\'s Walk seemed wonderful. The people, activities coordinator, RN and social worker were there to help. It is one of the benefits that sold us. Then they were gone...one by one. Replacements didn\'t come and questions were asked by resident\'s family. Always an excuse. Mom\'s room was dirty, bathroom area and toilet was filthy. When complained about situation, including pictures, was told not enough workers...rather than workers for laundry duty, caregivers were expected to do laundry and maintain room. During Covid19 it became worse. Mom fell multiple times as a result of being \"locked\" in room. She would try to get out of wheelchair and caregivers were scarce and not checking. Mom needed assistance with eating. Caregivers felt it was an imposition on their time. I talked to management and was told I might need to hire someone. Even during covid, as an essential caregiver for my mom, I went several times a week to make sure she was fed. I would not recommend Poet\'s Walk to anyone at this point unless they change their purpose....to care for residents and not make it all about money for bonuses etc.

Locating a safe, clean and compassionate place for a loved one diagnosed with Dementia is never easy. A family member recently needed immediate placement in a memory care facility. We toured several places in the Henderson/Boulder City area and chose Pacifica Senior Living Green Valley. We are SO GLAD we did!!! The staff there is amazing - especially Sharon, she has gone above and beyond to ensure a smooth transition. From the moment we met her we knew this was the place we would choose. :-) She and Ann moved furniture into the room and decorated it to give it a familiar just like home feel. We live out of state so updates via email, text and phone calls are critical and Sharon has been awesome to communicate with us. Sharon you are a true GEM and Pacifica is lucky to have you there to advocate for their residents. Each day we hear more great things about our loved ones interaction with the staff at Pacifica. We are so appreciative for everything they are doing to help us during this challenging time of finding care for our family member. Can\'t wait to come visit in a couple weeks!

I liked Pacifica Senior Living Green Valley. The prices were good, the place was clean, and the staff was very friendly. They have studios, one-bedroom apartments, and the rooms were really big. The staff was very kind and very willing to work with you.

Prestige Senior Living at Mira Loma was really good and I couldn't find anything to complain about. The staff is very kind, very helpful, and only there to assist you. The rooms were more like a studio, but they had a variety of options. They had bingo and a library. They provide three meals a day, which are included in the cost.

Merrill Gardens at Siena Hills is beautiful and the staff is friendly. They make sure the rooms are clean and they allow animals. They have a full-time nursing staff on-hand. There are two to three nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They have events and community rooms where they have little parties, they play cards, or play bingo. It's very well maintained. My father has a studio apartment and it has a refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink, but no stove. They are going to be administering medicaion. They come in and they clean the room two or three times a week, they change the bed sheets once a week, they have a cafeteria, and they also have the panic button necklace in case something happens. The meals are always excellent. The facility is laid out real nice, but they're a little above average price wise.

Merrill Gardens at Siena Hills was top of the line. The staff that took us on the tour was great, and the gal who runs it was very accommodating. They let us know what apartments were available, and they're very clean, very nice, and they let you do your own thing there. They had activities if you want, but you don't have to use them. They had an exercise area, a library, a computer area, and weekly entertainment.

Care Cost Comparison
The most important factor influencing the cost of senior care is the type needed. In Henderson, the cost of skilled nursing care in a semiprivate room is more than double the cost of assisted living. Home health aides are nearly $1,000 more per month than assisted living, and homemaker services are only slightly less. In-home care doesn’t include living expenses, such as rent and utilities, while residential care usually does. When considering what kind of care is least expensive, it’s essential to look at the costs of remaining in the home versus moving to a residential facility.
