I visited this facility

Bellarose was lovely. It's a new facility, but they didn't have a ground floor apartment available. The person I met with was very nice. It was a lovely facility. It was just the availability of first floor apartments is hard to come by and it was a little bit more expensive than what I'm paying now. Meals were included, and there were activities. There was a pool and a gym. The apartment size was average and there wasn't a lot of storage, but they had their own washer and dryer in each unit, which was nice. Everything was clean and new. The staff was very nice and very helpful. They weren't letting anyone in the dining room at all. I had a brief tour of the vacant apartment they had, but they were still on pretty strict lockdown. They had a pool.

I visited this facility

We have chosen Legend at Mingo Road for my sister-in-law. I visit there a lot with friends. It has always been a warm, really pretty place. I feel my sister-in-law would be comfortable there. It's not a really big place. Nice residents. I heard the food is good. It looks like my sister-in-law is going to have a nice view. It's very small compared to what she's used to, but it's still a quiet place. I like that, too. The staff who helped me and talked to me was very nice and helpful. The building was lovely.

I visited this facility

I went by Legend at Mingo Road when we were touring for my father-in-law's move, and the striking thing about there is walking in and going into one of the rooms to view the room it smelled heavily of urine. The facility looked great, but that aroma of urine is a quick turnoff. Because of that experience, I make sure that people know that's not a good place to go. They could've cleaned it up, and they may not always smell that way, but it sure smelled of pee when we went. The staff was friendly and positive. I even commented on it, "It smells like pee in here." They had a television room and it had books in it, but they didn't have a lot of communal gathering areas from what I saw. They did menu type style meals. The place was acceptable, but not the best.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Mom moved into here in January 2019. We're really happy with it and we like it. The room is nice, we're happy with it. We're also happy with the staff They do bingo, and things have been changed because of Covid. They used to do field trips and used to go to Walmart. I know they do have a man that comes out and plays the piano every couple of weeks. Mom enjoys that, but most of the activity she's not really able to participate in. The food is good. Some is better than others, but for the most part it's pretty good.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We moved into Cedarhurst of Woodland Hills. With the restrictions as far as the flu here, we were forced to wear a mask. I got a health issue that prevents me from wearing a mask, so we basically were confined in our room. We were not able to do anything. I don't know anybody who was really involved in any of the activities. It seemed a fairly nice place, but it didn't work out. My wife's memory condition was getting much worse. I needed to do something and hopefully got her more involved, so I decided to move her to a memory care facility. At Cedarhurst of Woodland Hills, we were quarantined in the room for the first 14 days. We had to wear a mask if we left the room, but I just cannot breathe through a mask. We had a two-bedroom apartment. They had single bedrooms and studios, too. They had planned activities as well as various things you could do, but I'm not sure what they were. They had a swimming pool outside, but that would be for during the summer months. We hardly got out of our room. I couldn't leave my wife and she couldn't leave the room for any length of time because of her memory problems. The staff for the most part was reasonably good. The only complaint I had was they were supposed to clean the rooms on a weekly basis. We didn't have any room-cleaning at all for the first month. We set up Fridays for the apartment to be cleaned, and I think they cleaned it five times out of the three months we were there. The facility itself was fairly decent.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Right now, we're in a COVID lockdown here. I'm with my dad 24/7. Because he is recovering from major surgery, he would not be able to be totally independent right now. It's wonderful, it's friendly, it's caring, and it's clean. They go out of their way to provide individual needs as well as group needs. We have not seen the full program because we're all in lockdown right now. We see each other only through the doorway occasionally. Food is delivered, but they have taken every step to make sure that the residents are well fed, well cared for and have all that they need, and I appreciate that. Being that we have not been here during the normal routine, everything is on hold, there's no recreation or anything going on right now. The food is very good here and they have good variety. I'm going to say 4 (rating) for food just because we're not getting the full menu stuff, which is supposed to be wonderful. It's door-to-door delivery food right now. It's independent; they're in their own apartments. The residents can come and go if they want. They have a laundry facility where the laundry can be done, but they want you to be as independent as you want to be. All the residents have pets here which is wonderful. My dad has a cat. They have places to walk them. It is all wooded. That was one of the reasons that we came to look at this facility because it was wooded. It wasn't in the city, it didn't have all the city sound, and it has squirrels and trees. That's one of the things that we like about it. My dad is in independent living. We are going to take advantage of his also being a veteran. He is in for a pretty lengthy recovery time. We have physical therapy, speech, and occupational therapy provided by the facility. They're coming in two to three days a week. They're going to start next week. Because he is a veteran, they will also provide daily assisted living care, so someone can come in and help him with showers and to get dressed in the morning. He is 92, so things are a little difficult especially with the broken leg and a broken hip. They provide that; I didn't have to go out looking for people. They provide that if you have the right circumstances with which you can pay or if you just want to pay out of pocket.

Legend at Tulsa Hills is beautiful, very new and clean, and there are no bad smells or anything like that. I haven't really gotten in there much because of the quarantine. I was able to try the food, which was really good. My interactions with the staff have all been mostly by phone, but they all seemed very caring and seem to be working really hard to take care of all the residents. We're very impressed with it so far. The food was brought to my father's room on the night I was there, and it was still hot and the flavors were good. They have a theater room, so they have movie nights, and during sports seasons they'll have football parties and things for the residents to watch on the big screen. They have bingo, puzzles, poker parties, church services, music, and somebody will come in and play the piano and they'll sing.
