Management has a fundamental lack of respect for their residents. They began a year long exterior renovation with less than one weeks notice to the residents subjecting them to live in a noisy and filthy construction site for more than one year. They state that they are under a multi year multi phase expansion plan but they do not give any further info as to weather or not that means one year or ten years. If you do not mind on going construction in your golden years this might be a fit?

Stay away from Zebulon Rehab!!! My dad was there for 24 hours!!! He fell twice and had to be sent to the ER. The staff seems incredible/caring when you are looking at the facility, but once you are there they do a 180 degree turn. I am still waiting for a callback from Christy (Admissions) after my dad\'s second fall. After the first fall, I called the nurse and she said she my dad was doing fine and she just gave him insulin. I was livid, I said my dad does not take insulin. She then put me on hold and said she thought I was someone else. To top it off, they had my dad\'s name flipped. I corrected them four times and they never changed it. Once I went to the ER, the records were all messed up. It took forever to get the insurance cleared.

We really like Cambridge Village of Apex, except the price. We did not like the cost. It was a full service senior living community, so it was understandable. It was a very well-run and happy place. People enjoy being there, and we enjoyed being there and visiting. I do not have anything negative to say except that in our situation, we feel that we don't quite need that level of care yet. They have a bus to they take everybody to places. They have all the standard activities, and even have therapy if you need it. They have an indoor swimming pool. They have just about anything you would consider having in a senior community. They gave us lunch, and it was wonderful. I have absolutely nothing negative to say except it was too expensive for our blood.

My brother seems to be adjusting fine at Independence Village Of Olde Raleigh. I don't have any complaints, and he doesn't seem to have any. He seems to be staying busy with the activities that they have. The physical appearance is nice. The carpet in the hallway needs to be replaced, but the lady said that they were working on that, and that that was next to be done. Other than that, that's the only thing that I saw that needed to be addressed. It's clean, too. They have exercise and physical therapy. They also have a bingo room, a room for other games, and a place for church services. I love every one of the staff there. They have been fabulous and most helpful. My brother loves the food, and he said it is the best food he has had. They have several activities that he is taking part in, and he loves the bingo, too.

I am staying at Jordan Oaks. They are friendly. The room is actually kind of spacious for a studio and a handicap room. I am able to access the shower and everything. The staff is really helpful and friendly. They have a chef that prepares meals and they have good variety.

I visited Brookdale MacArthur Park for my mom and it was fine. The staff was very helpful. They showed me a single room and a shared room. They have an on-site salon. They have a dining room and all different types of activities, but I didn't get to see the specific types of activities. They do activities right now. I didn't ask about visitation. I really wasn't worried about that. Obviously, it's all going to be different because of COVID anyway.

I visited Brookdale MacArthur Park. I was very comfortable with the staff. They were very helpful, they spent a lot of time with me as they helped me with this decision. I sat with the sales manager, KC, for a good two hours. She gave me all the time I needed, I didn't feel rushed, and she was honest with me. I also met some of the residents, and they were very helpful. In fact, one of them -- an ex-teacher like my mother is -- offered her phone number in case my mom had any questions. It was very pleasant, I think it was a great visit. The residents all seemed very happy, and they're well taken care of. I was very happy with the place.

My sister is now at Cambridge Village of Apex. It has been adequate. My younger son has been helping her, but I believe everything is exceptionally well done and she is happy with things. She has some personal problems that are not related to the location, but other than that, they're doing their best for her. She is happy with the food and she is happy that she is able to shop and do things. I haven't been in the apartment myself, but I met her in the dining hall downstairs. It's been adequate. She has a fridge and she has the necessities. She can snack all she wants. She can do all the things she needs to do. I have limited contact with the staff, but they're very personable and very professional. The facility looks excellent. There is ample parking, and it is easy to get to. It's not a congested area. They seem to end their activities early. My sister plays different games, but the activities seem to break up early in the evening, and she prefers to be with a lot of people most of the time. She doesn't like to stay in her room, so she wishes the activity would go on later into the night. She said the games pretty much break up by 7:00 p.m. and she wished they would go on until 11:00 or 12:00. One thing she would prefer to change is that the activities could be later in the day.

In the Charlotte area, the cost of assisted living is about midrange at $3,803 per month.

The type of care senior citizens receive greatly affects the price they pay. In Wake County, assisted living costs quite a bit less than nursing home care, which averages $7,125 per month. Home care services are less expensive than assisted living care by nearly $2,000; however, an array of other costs need to be taken into account when seniors choose to receive care in their own home, including rent, groceries and utility bills. When considering all of these costs, assisted living is usually less expensive.

North Carolina’s state Medicaid program assists low-income families and individuals with access to health care services, such as primary care and hospital services. It also helps its beneficiaries pay for expenses, such as prescription medications, necessary medical devices and nursing home care.
To qualify for Medicaid in North Carolina, applicants income must not exceed $1,041 per month ($1,410 for married couples applying together), and their total countable assets are limited to $2,000 ($3,000 for married couples). Although Medicaid considers all income sources when determining eligibility, some assets are exempt, including the applicant’s home, household furnishings, personal belongings and one vehicle.
Those who have excessively high medical expenses but don’t meet the program’s financial requirements may be able to take advantage of the state’s Medicaid spend-down program. This program allows Medicaid recipients to pay for their medical expenses before counting their income toward eligibility requirements. Those who choose to apply via this program may wish to work with a professional Medicaid planner.
To apply for Medicaid, seniors living in the Wake County area can complete an application online or call (888) 245-0179.
Personal Care Services Program
North Carolina’s Personal Care Services program operates under the state Medicaid plan and includes coverage for assistance with activities of daily living for individuals residing at home, a group home or an assisted living facility.
To qualify for this program, applicants must be cognitively impaired or disabled and require assistance with personal activities, such as dressing, bathing or toileting. They must also be fully eligible for the state Medicaid plan.
Seniors can apply to this program online or call (888) 245-0179 for more information.
Special Assistance Program for Adult Care Home Residents
This non-Medicaid, state-funded program helps seniors to pay for room-and-board costs in assisted living facilities and other types of long-term care homes. Coverage amounts are determined by the recipient’s income and calculated based on a sliding scale. Participants may receive up to $1,228 per month in benefits.
To qualify for this program, seniors must be at least aged 65 and have a medically documented need for long-term care. Financially, eligibility requirements are the same as Medicaid.
To apply, seniors living in Wake County can contact the Wake County Human Services Department at (919) 857-3763.
Optional State Supplement
Senior citizens in North Carolina may be able to receive a cash benefit of up to $887 per month from the state’s Optional State Supplement program. The benefit helps senior citizens to pay for additional expenses that aren’t covered by other state assistance programs, such as Medicaid.
The OSS is only available to seniors aged 65 and older and disabled adults who are recipients of the federal Supplemental Security Income benefit.
For more information, seniors can call the Wake County Human Services Department at (919) 857-3763.
There are four senior centers in Wake County that provide opportunities for senior citizens to enjoy enriching activities with others.
